Introduction to Yoga for Runners Workshop

Workshop Date: Sunday 20th July
Time: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Venue: Wadsworth Community Centre

This 2-hour beginner-friendly workshop is designed especially for runners who are interested in trying yoga but aren’t sure where to begin. Whether you’re completely new to yoga or want some guidance on how to make it work for your body, this is the perfect place to start.

Workshop Schedule

Part 1: Meet & Explore (10:00 – 10:50)

Meet your instructor and fellow runners

Introduction to common yoga poses

Learn how to adapt poses to your own body

Discover how to make use of props (blocks, straps, blankets)

Get familiar with the names of key poses

Part 2: Learn a Sun Salutation (10:50 – 11:20)

Break down a simple Sun Salutation sequence

Learn how to move safely between poses and connect movements with your breath (and why this is useful)

Explore modifications to suit your flexibility and strength

Part 3: Discussion and Targeted Practice (11:30 – 12:00)

Identify common runner’s issues that you experience

Match yoga poses to your individual needs

Who’s It For?

Runners new to yoga

Anyone who is interested in trying yoga and unsure how to start

Athletes looking to use yoga for cross-training, recovery or S&C.

What to Bring

A yoga mat (if you have one – mats will be available to borrow if you don’t have one)

Water bottle

Wear comfortable clothes you can move in

What to expect

We offer a dogma-free approach yoga, focusing on the physical and mental health benefits and how this can be useful for runners and active people. The workshop is relaxed and informative. Comment and discussion is encouraged – You won’t be breaking the silence or disrupting the calm if you speak.

The workshop is led by runner and yoga instructor, Rachel Pilling – An English, British and BOFRA champion fell runner with 8-years experience of delivering yoga for runners classes and workshops.

There is parking available at the community centre.

The workshop is £20 – This includes a 2-hour workshop drinks and snacks.
